What The Heck Do I Know About Self Defense For Girls!

And Where Do I Find Some Credible Information About It?

What the heck do I know about self defense for girls, and where in the world can I find some credible information about it?

I will be the first to admit that I know only a little bit about female self defense.

However I will share with you some of my general observations thoughts and findings.

I will also direct you towards some outstanding resources that I found on the internet regarding girls self defense.

For starters I am a father of two beautiful little girls both under the age of five.

So my underlying motive here is to research and figure out how to best protect and keep them out of harms way.

My opinion right now is that given their ages their best protection is having a mamma and pappa bear that are standing on guard and ready to pounce if a wolf in sheeps clothing approaches them.

As you can see the topic of self defense for my girls right now is minimal since you cannot expect a little person to be able to physically take on an adult and win.

self defense for girls Also add to that the fact that if you are talking about abduction, strangers and pedophiles to kids you are going to do nothing but emotionally and mentally scar them for the rest of their lives.

So for now my wife and I concentrate on keeping conversation lines open about anything that bothers them, establishing physical boundaries and assertiveness.

Sometimes this assertiveness has been a challenge since you still have to maintain a parental role and not let your kids run around free range style!

Assertiveness is in my mind one of the most important pieces of the personal protection puzzle for girls.

If a girl, young woman, or female adult just appears assertive and confident it is half the battle.

In my non-professional opinion this assertiveness and confidence lets predators know that you will not be taken as prey without a fight.

And predators almost always target the weak first.

This is a rule of thumb in my mind and there are always plenty of exceptions to rules of thumb.

Exceptions can include sociopaths, misogynists, and psychos just to name a few.

I feel that martial arts training starting at a young age is ideal to help with the assertiveness and confidence.

Self Defense For Girls If the budget and child’s interests fit I would look at cross training a ground sport with a striking sport.

Jiu Jitsu and Tae Kwon Do or even Judo and Karate.

This is all fine and dandy for sport competition and assertiveness training but what about real life self defense?

For starters, self defense for girls starts with the role models at home.

Your childs biggest influencers are how you behave and react to situations.

Secondly age appropriateness has to come into play since you cannot expect a 5 year old to effectively attack and adult.

This is just common sense.

So the best defense for a young girl is always having a “mother or father lion” nearby, watching over and making their presence known in order to keep the jackals away.

Now what about when the girl is getting older and having mom or dad watching over them at all times is just not acceptable?

In this scenario I think that any training is better than none at all.

Some sort of self defense training with some role playing will have at least exposed the girl to some scenarios and hopefully hard wired in some basic fundamentals of self defense.

So I scoured the internet a have come up with a short list of some programs that I personally like that cover the issues of self defense for girls.

First of all I would always recommend taking some sort of live training as watching a video or reading about something will never be as good as experiencing hands on training.

You have to hard wire the neural pathways in your brain in order to function under stress.

Actual physical training is the best way to do this.

No amount of visualization, reading and watching will replace actual physical training that involves all of your senses.

Defining the difference between self defense for girls and self defense for women is very hard to distinguish.

So for my purposes here the self defense for girls section includes young girls of elementary school age and young women in their teens.
